Galit Alter, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard. Dr. Alter’s early work focused on the role of innate and adaptive cytotoxic cells in the control of HIV. This work laid the foundation for her pioneering work focused on building new immunological technologies, paired with protein engineering and machine learning, resulting in discoveries of the role of antibodies in directing the anti-microbial activity of the innate immune system via antibodies. Her work has led to discoveries on immunological correlates and mechanisms of protection across many diseases including HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and others.
