Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) and its KeyNote Program for Music Education and Community Outreach, I am delighted to invite you to Tel-Aviv, Israel, for our first International Conference on Music Education and Community Initiatives.

The KeyNote International Conference is one of the special programs and events that will be held in celebration  of the  80th Anniversary of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

KeyNote Program is based on the strong belief that everyone has the right and the ability to listen to live concerts, to make music, to aspire to and achieve excellence in performance, and to create personal and communal expressions of artistic, social and cultural concerns in our society.

Keynote's First International Conference will present relevant researches and explore effective methods of musical engagement of young audiences, teachers in formal and informal education, community practitioners and facilitators, music students, adult audiences and performers from different cultures and backgrounds.

Our vision for this conference is to provide you with a rich tapestry of musical moments. While you are here, we will show you what makes Israel and the IPO such fertile ground for artistic development.

Please accept this warm invitation to join us in Tel-Aviv in May 2017.

Sincerely yours,

Maestro Zubin Mehta

About

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1936 by Bronislaw Huberman and its inaugural concert, on 26 December 1936, was conducted by Arturo Toscanini. The IPO plays in subscription series, including a special annotated IPO for Kids Series, special concerts.

The IPO annually tours the world's cultural centers and its prestigious festivals in Europe, Asia, North America and South America.

Israel's creative artists are promoted by many IPO premieres of works by Israeli composers. The IPO contributed to the absorption of new immigrants and included in its ranks many new immigrant musicians. The orchestra has hosted most of the world's greatest conductors and soloists, and it also does much to develop Israeli artists and young talents from Israel and abroad.

In 1968 Maestro Zubin Mehta was appointed Music Advisor to the IPO and in 1977 he became its Music Director. Leonard Bernstein was named IPO Laureate Conductor in 1988, in 1992 Kurt Masur was appointed Honorary Guest Conductorm, since 2001 Yoel Levi has been Principal Guest Conductor of the IPO and since the 2011 Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda has been Chief Guest Conductor of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

This season the IPO celebrates its 80th anniversary in a prestigious festival (December 2016) and in different events throughout the world, including a special annotated IPO for Kids Series and special concerts.

KeyNote

KeyNote is the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s program for Music Education and Community Outreach, founded in 2000. Over 17,000 children of all ages and adults take part yearly in a diverse collection of activities centered on Israel’s finest orchestra.

From kindergarten, through elementary and high school, and even into the Army, the orchestra reaches out to the young audience with intimate sessions in the classroom, specially designed school concerts at Tel-Aviv’s Bronfman Auditorium, master classes, and special events for young musicians.

The program promotes tolerance and mutual respect, serving all of Israel’s citizens: Jewish, Christian and Muslim. KeyNote regularly reaches out to communities that previously had no exposure to the Orchestra.

KeyNote is made possible through the generous support of the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. KeyNote activities are also supported by the IPO and the IPO Foundation.

KeyNote director and founder: Irit Rub
KeyNote pedagogical director: Dr. Dochy Lichtensztajn

Greetings

It is with great honour that I send my best wishes to the organizers and delegates of Keynote, the First International Conference in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. It is quite an achievement to have a world class orchestra working conjunction with an excellent music education provision and as the President of the International Society of Music Education I thank you all for your hard work and dedication. This event consolidates the work of the past and opens the way for the future ensuring that the orchestra continues with its deep routed connections to local community and now beyond, to an international audience. This work becomes critical in maintaining a healthy, vital, and sustainable relationship between music and society. In the uncertain times we are now living, musical expression is essential in helping us understand the essence of being human. From these platforms we can engage in open dialogue and look toward positive transformations in the way we build and sustain human relationships. My thoughts are with you all during these days and I hope your time together is fruitful and life affirming.
